That mix matters to you as a customer. Prices can be keener than in a mall showroom, but the market assumes you know what you are asking for, and it rewards people who do.

Mumbai buyers are unusually comfortable with gold in both forms. Jewellery moves here, but so do coins and bars, in volumes you do not see in every Indian city. Demand climbs around Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya, and again through Gudi Padwa and the wedding months either side of it.

Two things worth checking before you buy. Because this is a wholesale-facing market, making charges vary far more between shops than the metal rate does, so ask for the charge basis and the billed weight in writing rather than comparing headline percentages.
