Gold Rate Today in Kochi

Kochi buys gold in two places with quite different characters. Broadway, in Ernakulam beside Marine Drive, was once literally the widest road in town, which is how it got the name. It has since been overtaken in width and in prestige by M.G. Road, but it kept the trade, and its sloping-roofed buildings are being preserved under a heritage renewal project run by the Corporation of Cochin.

Broadway is a general bazaar rather than a jewellery street. Gold sits alongside spices, oils, utensils, cloth and books, and it gets genuinely crowded at festival time. M.G. Road carries the large chain showrooms, several of them belonging to groups founded in Kerala and now trading nationally and in the Gulf.

Kerala's convention is to quote 916, and the 22K rate on this page is the number that will be discussed across the counter. Chains, bangles and long traditional necklaces move in volume here, and the designs are conservative in the way that holds resale value.

The buying calendar is Malayalam rather than national. Vishu is the largest single occasion, Onam brings a second peak, and the wedding season fills in around them. Akshaya Tritiya is observed but does not dominate.

Practical advice for Kochi specifically: the chain showrooms on M.G. Road publish making charges more consistently than the older shops do, which makes them a useful reference point even if you intend to buy elsewhere. Get a written quotation from one before negotiating in Broadway.
